The NSW Department of Health has been reviewing its regulations in terms of skin penetration. This will potentially affect a large number of Nail and Beauty Technicians, Therapists and Salons - particalurly as other states review their own regulations.
However, it is apparent that the Government is moving to apply strict rules around the the requirement to properly sterilise equipment used in Nail and Beauty Salons, particularly where that equipment is used in 'skin penetration procedures'. In the interim, the NSW Department of Health have contacted the A.P.F.A directly and asked us to provide advice regarding sterlisation procedures and equipment.

Service Skills Australia submitted the SIB10 Beauty Training Package to the National Quality Council on Wednesday 18 August 2010. Once a training package is submitted to the National Quality Council the endorsement process takes 21 days, with the endorsement of the SIB10 Beauty Training Package anticipated for early September.
APFA was involved in the development and review of this package, which will supercede the WRB04 Beauty Training Package.
There are some interesting developments with regards to this new training package and the qualifications that it will provide. APFA will shortly analyse and report on some of the issues raised and the effects it may have on the the training of technicians.
